Dr. Beatrice Settanni is a maritime lawyer within the Shipping Department of our Law Firm from 2016 with particular focus on Ship Finance & Registration, Shipping Sale, Purchase & Charter Parties and Yacht Leasing.

She graduated cum laude as Juris Doctor specialized in European and International Law from LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome in academic year 2012/2013 after submitting a dissertation on "Exploration and exploitation activities in the International Seabed Area". During the law course, she was director of the University Journal and she studied at the University of Strasbourg in France between January and July 2011 on an Erasmus Student Exchange Programme where she attended lectures on European Law and Private Comparative Law being finally awarded of the Certificat d’Initiation au Système Juridique Français.

Beatrice started to specialize in Maritime Law in 2013 at the IFLOS Summer Academy based in the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) and in 2014 was awarded a scholarship by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation to pursue an LL.M. at the IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) where she graduated with distinction following completion of a dissertation entitled "Prevention of Air Pollution, Greenhouse Gases Emissions and Energy Efficiency in international shipping: a challenge towards a blue future". She had been visiting researcher at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in Hamburg and at the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) in Malta.

Beatrice worked at the International Chamber of Commerce, acquiring expertise on international contracts, international arbitration and maritime transport policy. In 2015 she was appointed by the Italian Ministry of Transport as a member of the Italian Delegation to IMO thanks to her commitment in the development of the maritime law and the implementation of IMO and EU maritime policies in Italy.

Before joining our Law Firm she also worked at the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) in Lisbon and for a brief period as Assistant Registrar at the Merchant Shipping Directorate of Transport Malta.
