Dr. Suzanne Shaw and Dr. Stephan Piazza delivered lectures during the 2nd ELSA Malta Maritime Summer Law School, a week-long social and academic programme organised by ELSA Malta.
This event was attended by approximately 50 law students from over 23 European Countries.
Dr. Shaw’s lecture focused on the Sale and Purchase of Vessels. Dr. Shaw outlined the contractual process leading to the execution of a sale and purchase agreement as well as the subsequent steps towards completion of the transaction. Dr Shaw analysed contractual clauses included in the most commonly used Sale Forms and their application through relevant case law.
Dr Piazza focused his lecture on Ship Recycling and the legal procedures to be abided by shipowners following the enactment of the EU Regulation 1013/2006 on Shipment of Waste and the EU Regulation 1215/2013 on Ship Recycling. Dr. Piazza also focused on the principles and legal obligations binding State parties to the Basel Convention on Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal and the Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships together.
