In a recent press conference, Malta’s Transport Minister Ian Borg confirmed that Malta’s shipping register remained the largest in the EU and the sixth largest globally. He reported that until the end of August 2017, more than 8,000 ships (which includes super yachts) with a combined gross tonnage of 74 million were flying the Maltese flag.
